Introduction ------------------------------------------------------------------- GO-Global for UNIX Version 2.3.1 is a minor limited-availability release of GO-Global for UNIX. It contains several important bug fixes and is being made available to select customers on an as-needed basis. You are invited to download, test, deploy, and provide comments about this distribution. Version 2.3.1 is a minor release of GO-Global for UNIX, and as such supersedes any and all previous 2.x releases. This release of GO-Global for UNIX may be downloaded from our FTP site (as anonymous user): $ ftp ftp.graphon.com ftp> cd pub/GO-Global-UX/v2.3.1 ftp> bin ftp> ls ftp> get GO-Global_for_UNIX-[platform].bin ftp> quit Please provide feedback to the following email address: support@graphon.com Notes: * Upgrades from version 2.0.x and 2.1.x to version 2.3 are not supported. Upgrades from version 2.2.x to 2.3 are possible. Consult the notes below and/or the Admininstrator Guide. Upgrades from Beta or RC versions are not supported. * We recommend reading the "Issues Resolved" section below. Also, an updated Administrator Guide can be found within the distribution and is available from the ftp site used to obtain the software. ------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Known Issues ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Several recent versions of KDE and Gnome desktop environments require 3D hardware acceleration that is not supported by GO-Global for UNIX. This makes these desktop environments incompatible with GO-Global for UNIX. The following environments are known to have issues: * KDE on Red Hat Enterprise Linux v6.x * Gnome on Red Hat Enterprise Linux v7.x GraphOn has determined that the effort required to implement the acceleration platforms required to resolve these problems would outweigh the utility of the end result, both in terms of cost and efficiency of the new implementation. We have also observed that the changes that have made KDE and Gnome incompatible with GO-Global for UNIX are being addressed by the KDE and Gnome maintainers, so we expect that they will eventually support usage with GO-Global. For example, the KDE shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux v6.x is not compatible, but the KDE shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux v7.x is compatible. 2. Several Linux vendors have begin shipping distributions that use a "Predictable" or "Consistent" network device naming scheme, where network devices are named based on a new convention, allowing them to retain their names when hardware is added or removed from the system. This is not compatible with the version of FlexNet Publisher that ships with GO-Global for UNIX. As a result, administrators must disable this mechanism or otherwise cause the network devices to be named "eth0", and so on. Please consult the operating system documentation for options and recommendations on how to manage this configuration. ------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Issues Resolved ------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.1 Resolved in 2.3.1 This release primarily addresses several regressions in window management behavior introduced in 2.3.0. These issues include the inability to restore minimized windows, and incorrect maximization of windows. (15982, 15868, 15865, 15863, 15685) 4.2 Resolved in 2.3.0 A protocol incompatiblity between 2.2 and 2.3 servers and clients was fixed. (15740, 15742) Mozilla browser addons are now shipped as bare plugins with a native Win32 installer. No extension is available because Mozilla is phasing out support for NPAPI extensions. (15676) NFS installations where database reads return ESTALE are handled better. (15569) Descriptors (including log file descriptors) are no longer leaked by gold when starting sessions and launching applications. This prevents problems where sessions would not suspend properly, as well as making it difficult (or impossible) to remove old log files. (14334) Improved handling of ALT, CTRL, and SHIFT modifiers when changing focus (including ALT-TAB). (14453) Fixed a font display problem on Solaris. (14887) Better handling of stale X11 lockfiles, which could cause sessions to fail to start. (14917) Windows 8+ support was added to the Windows client installer. (15238) Fixed handling of invalid command-line options so that an error is reported but additional connection attempts are possible. (15242) For audit and security compliance, the cipher suite used for an SSL connection is now logged. (15508) The client now allows the session size to be specified at much higher limits. Previously the limit was 2 times the primary monitor's width, but this has been increased to 12000x6000. (14683) The behavior of maximizing windows on multiple-monitor systems has been improved. The client now maps the window to the monitor it appears on and maximizes it to that monitor. (15427) The idle_timeout parameter in gold.conf is now enforced for idle connections to the server as well as idle sessions. (15616)
